BECOME A MEDICAL CODING SPECIALIST

A Coding Specialist reads medical charts and reports done by healthcare providers. The Coding Specialist then translate the diagnoses, procedures and treatments into code numbers. The codes are submitted by the billing department to the insurance companies, Medicare and Medicaid for payment to the healthcare provider. Coding Specialists are employed by all types of healthcare organizations including hospitals, physician offices, nursing homes, home health agencies, mental health clinics, insurance companies, and government agencies.
